Why SnapGPT is the best AI helper for Canvas quizzes

Most AI tools make you leave Canvas: copy the question into ChatGPT, or search for it on Chegg, then carry the answer back. That round trip is slow — and Canvas can log tab switches during quizzes. SnapGPT works the other way: it stays in your quiz tab, screenshots the question when you click, and shows the answer right there.

Because SnapGPT reads the page visually, it doesn't care which quiz engine your school uses. Classic Quizzes, New Quizzes (LTI 1.3), embedded images, chemistry structures, econ graphs — whatever is on screen is what the AI sees. Multiple choice comes back as the exact letter; essays and short answers stream in full with SmartScan.

And when you'd rather keep the screen clean, Subtle Mode makes the floating button invisible until you hover it, or you can switch to URL-bar display and read the answer from the address bar instead of a popup. Prefer it fully hands-off? On Plus, Autopilot clicks through the quiz question-by-question for you (it never submits).

Canvas guides from the SnapGPT blog

The playbook, in depth — these are the guides students find us through.

What Canvas can — and can't — see

Canvas logs page and tab activity during quizzes — leaving the quiz tab to look something up can show in the quiz log. SnapGPT's whole flow happens inside the quiz tab, so there's no tab switch to record.

Canvas cannot see which browser extensions you have installed. Extension activity isn't part of Canvas's quiz log. What appears on your screen is another matter: the answer popup is visible on your display like any other window, so if you're sharing your screen, position it accordingly or use URL-bar display.

Locked-down browsers are different. Respondus LockDown Browser and similar tools disable all extensions — SnapGPT included. SnapGPT works in regular Chrome and Firefox sessions, not inside lockdown browsers.

SnapGPT on Canvas: FAQ

Does SnapGPT work on Canvas New Quizzes?

Yes. SnapGPT is screenshot-based, so it works identically on Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes (LTI 1.3) — including questions with stimulus images, graphs, and diagrams. There's nothing to configure per course.

Can Canvas detect SnapGPT?

Canvas cannot see which browser extensions are installed, and extension activity doesn't appear in the quiz log. What Canvas can log is tab-switching — which SnapGPT doesn't require, since the whole flow happens in your quiz tab. Locked-down browsers like Respondus disable all extensions, SnapGPT included.

Does SnapGPT work on Canvas questions with images or graphs?

Yes. SnapGPT captures the question as a screenshot and reads it with vision AI, so charts, chemistry structures, geometry figures, and stimulus images are interpreted exactly as they appear.

How fast are answers on Canvas?

A few seconds for most questions. Multiple choice returns the exact letter; free-response answers stream in word-by-word with SmartScan.

Does SnapGPT auto-fill Canvas answers?

The standard flow shows you the answer and you enter it — that keeps you in control. On Plus, Autopilot can click through a multi-question quiz for you, one question at a time. It never submits the quiz; that's always your call.

Does SnapGPT work with Respondus LockDown Browser?

No. LockDown Browser disables all extensions and runs in a closed environment. SnapGPT works in regular Chrome and Firefox sessions on Canvas.

How much does SnapGPT cost for Canvas?

Free: 5 screenshot answers and 5 chat messages every day. Plus — unlimited answers, SmartScan free-response, Autopilot, reasoning models — is $3.99/week, $9.99/month, or $89.99/year.

Is it OK to use SnapGPT on Canvas?

SnapGPT is a study aid — use it to check answers, understand solutions, and review faster. Using unauthorized help on graded Canvas work may violate your school's academic-integrity policy; check what your instructor allows and take responsibility for how you use the answers.
